Madiba Youth Organization joins the world to mourn the demise of the Comrade Ahmed Kathrada
Anti-apartheid activist Ahmed Kathrada, who died in Johannesburg on Tuesday morning, was sentenced to life imprisonment with Nelson Mandela for fighting injustice imposed by the South Africa’s white minority rulers but he will also be remembered for his scathing criticism of the corruption that riddled the ANC-led government.
” A legend of heroes is never dying, The Madiba Youth Organization is deeply saddened by the sudden death of the great African national hero , struggle veteran and Rivonia trialist Ahmed Kathrada, 87, who passed away on 28 March 2017,” said Adam Sibuyi in a statement sent to media houses.
Ahmed Kathrada , was a long-standing African nationalist who made tremendous positive and crucial contributions to the founding and development of the South African freedom struggle. His death was a great loss for his family, and for our people and for all freedom loving people at large. He was an exceptional person, who was driven with passion and determination for freedom and human dignity of South African people.
Adam Sibuyi added,”we are deeply saddened by the loss of such a great father, leader and freedom fighter who dedicated himself almost for half a century of struggle in the interest of the African cause. We wish to express our deep condolence to his family and our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.”
“At the point we are expressing our profound and heartfelt sorrow, we know that Ahmed Kathrada passed away only physically but not spiritually. His spirit of unwavering resistance will live in the minds and hearts of our people. As a legend of South African heroes, he will be the dynamic force of our history and the source of inspiration for our freedom struggle,” he continued.
“As we mourn this loss together, let us find solace in the knowledge that the ideals to which Comrade Kathrada dedicated his life remain at the center of our national effort to achieve a better life for all our people.” Read the statement from Madiba Youth Organization.
The South African president Jacob Zuma described Mr Kathrada as a stalwart of the liberation struggle and ordered the national flag to be flown at half mast at all government buildings.
