Quipbank partners with EABL to provide 30,000 sorghum farmers with machinery
PRESS RELEASE
Quipbank has partnered with East African Breweries Limited (EABL) to provide agricultural machinery on a rental basis to sorghum farmers contracted by EABL.
The partnership will see farmers access farming equipment like tractors, planters, ploughs, air seeders, boom sprayers and harvesters. The availability of these machinery will result in further mechanization, better cost management and increased efficiency.
“Improved sorghum production is key in economic growth through the utilization of rare resources in product manufacturing. The cereal is also a major food grain in Africa and has both food and animal feed benefits. Our mission as Quipbank is to mechanize agriculture by availing farming equipment to farmers to boost production and curb starvation”, said Mr. Mogire commercial manager at Quipbank.
EABL is currently working with over 12,000 sorghum farmers in the lake region expected to grow to over 15,000 farmers in the coming season because of the demand that will be created by the Kisumu Brewery that was commissioned by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta on July 2017 to increase production of Senator Keg beer made from sorghum. This will result to increase in sorghum demand from 20,000 metric tons to 60,000 metric tons annually in the next five years.
Overall, EABL sorghum project is expected to touch over 45,000 farmers in the coming two years in over 10 countries.
The Kenyan government is also keen on improving sorghum production to promote food security, in line with the big four development agenda.
