Taj Mall owner Threatens to sue the Government

Taj Shopping Mall owner Ramesh Gorasia now says he will sue the government for damaging and destroying his property.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the demolition on Saturday, the businessman said that he has reported the demolition at Embakasi police station.

Gorasia  said that he had earlier reported the matter to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) but was turned away.

He said that the CID told him that they are not the right people to receive the complaint.

Gorasia maintained that the mall does not encroach on any road reserve.

He said that he was given the green light to construct the multi-billion Mall by officials of the Nairobi County Council in 1992.

“I am going to battle this matter to whatever place it will take me,” he said.

Gorasia had earlier requested the government not to demolish the mall.

He had proposed to the government to turn the mall into a public facility instead of pulling it down.

On Saturday, the Nairobi Regeneration team however moved in and started pulling it down.
